What to bring?

Bring a picture identification card with you at Admission.

What fees and documentation should I bring when I’m admitted?

  • Clients are expected to pay on the date of admission the full fee in cash, credit card, check, money order or a bank check. If the client chooses to leave treatment or is asked to leave by the Treatment Team; a portion of the fee is non-refundable and the amount will increase each day.
  • Identification:  Please bring a picture identification card OR a picture identification card and your social security card.
  • Proof of Residency: Please bring documentation to prove your legal residency status. Acceptable documentation includes utility bills, paycheck stubs, W-2s and income tax returns.
  • Spending Money: Clients are allowed to have $45 in spending money. All other funds must be deposited in Harbor House’s Business Office.


What toiletries and other personal belongings should I bring with me?

Please note – (1) Aerosol products, products containing alcohol and all other products deemed inappropriate or unsafe by the Treatment Team will not be permitted on the premises. (2) The Treatment Team, at its own discretion, shall determine what is inappropriate attire. (3) Upon admission, Harbor House staff will examine all of your personal belongings before they are allowed on the unit.

  • Casual clothing such as jeans and t-shirts and comfortable shoes.  Appropriate-length shorts may be worn.  No cut-offs or inappropriate length shorts will be allowed.
  • Skirts and dresses that are knee-length or longer.
  • Form-fitting clothing, including Lycra tights or biking or running shorts, are not permitted. No low-cut tops, blouses with spaghetti straps or tank tops. Bare midriffs are unacceptable, as are t-string t-shirts, sleeveless t-shirts, stretch tank tops, mini skirts, tight pants and crop tops.
  • Jeans and clothing must not have suggestive tears or cutouts.
  • Undergarments are required for all patients (including bras for women).
  • Regular sports shirts and undershirts (undershirts and sleeveless shirts cannot be worn alone as shirts).
  • Clothing depicting sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, gambling, sports teams and all other articles of clothing with logos are NOT permitted.
  • Earrings for women with pierced ears are permitted; men are not permitted to wear earrings. Visible piercings on all other body parts are not permitted for both men and women.
  • Belts are required for baggy pants.
  • Pajamas, robe and slippers.
  • Shower Shoes.
  • Caps.
  • Towels (2) and washcloths (2).
  • Personal hygiene products (e.g., shaving cream, shampoo, soap, talcum powder, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes and aftershave/cologne (non-aerosol and nonalcoholic only).
  • Feminine hygiene products.
  • Cigarettes.
  • Prescription medications (in the appropriately labeled prescription bottle).
  • Eyeglasses.
  • Stationary supplies, writing paper, black ink pens, envelopes and stamps.
  • Electric and disposable razors/shavers are the only type allowed.
  • Reading materials are limited to recovery-related topics
  • Electrical items, such as hair dryers, curling irons and electric shavers, will be checked for safety.


Can I bring my car, truck or motorcycle?

Personal vehicles for individuals in the Phase I – Primary Care Residential Treatment Program are not allowed on the premises. Clients that graduate to Phase II – Transitional Care Treatment Program are permitted to have a vehicle as long as they have a valid driver’s license, registration and inspection certificates and proof of insurance.

What should I leave at home?

  • Non-prescription medications and nutritional supplements.
  • Excessive or expensive jewelry.
  • Radios, pagers, tape recorders, CD players, tapes, TV, cellular phones, laptops, electronic address books, audio/video equipment and cameras.
  • Exercise equipment and craft materials.
  • Reading material (novels, magazines or publications) not related to recovery.
  • Cards, games and puzzles.
  • Stuffed animals.
  • Shoe polish.
  • Glass items.
  • Sun glasses.
  • Straight razors, razorblades, pocketknives, knitting needles, crochet hooks and metal hairpieces.
  • Aerosol products, including deodorant and hairspray.
  • Mouthwash with alcohol.
  • Suntan oils or baby oils (substitute with lotions).
  • Products containing alcohol (i.e., mouthwash, aftershave, facial toner, perfume, perfumed lotions, etc).
  • Food, chewing gum, breath mints, candy of any kind, sugar, or artificial sweeteners.
  • Illegal substances and mood-altering drugs.
  • Drug paraphernalia.
  • Flash lights.
  • Firearms and/or supplies.
  • E-cigarettes and vapes
